Dr Kieren Maddern

Specialist in Veterinary anaesthesia & analgesia
Dr Kieren is a European boarded specialist in anaesthesia and analgesia. She has a particular interest in animal pain and strives to improve awareness of this problem and also deliver high-level care for pets in pain through provision of state of the art perioperative analgesia and chronic pain management on an outpatient basis.
Kieren graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) in 2000. Following graduation she spent time in general practice, at the University of Queensland veterinary emergency center and at the University of Sydney as a Clinical Registrar in Veterinary Anaesthesia.
In 2005 she became a Member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the field of Anaesthesia & Critical care. She completed a senior clinical training scholarship (residency) at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket (UK) and she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia in 2009. Since the completion of her residency program Kieren has worked as a consultant anaesthetist at a number of practices.
Since 2010, Kieren has provided services in Singapore, Hong Kong & China. She is currently based in Brisbane, Australia where she continues to provide anaesthetic consultancy services.

Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia
Dr Heidi Lehmann is an American-boarded specialist in anesthesiology and analgesia with a keen interest in equine anaesthesia and enabling small animal practices to improve their day-to-day anaesthesia case management. Heidi enjoys teaching and has a passion for educating veterinary staff in any and all aspects of anaesthesia practice, from equipment use to how to manage high-risk patients during anaesthesia.
Heidi graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 2010. After a few years in general practice in Western Australia, Heidi completed a residency back at Murdoch University, including becoming a Member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the chapter of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia & Critical care in 2016, and then becoming boarded in 2017. .After eight years of working in research, both under and post graduate teaching along with clinical referral practice at teaching hospitals in both New Zealand and Australia, Heidi has moved home to the Great Southern of Western Australia.
Throughout her work at Massey and Charles Sturt University Heidi has consulted with local clinics and research projects to provide anaesthesia consultancy and services. Locuming in Melbourne in early 2024 Heidi found a love of referral practice and consultancy which she brings to the VAPMC family. Heidi is based in Western Australia and provides clinical anaesthesia & pain management services, both in person and via telemedicine and training to individuals and practices both.
Ms Kate Hatcher

Veterinary Technician Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia
Kate is a veterinary nurse/technician with over 20 years of experience. She started working in general practices in Melbourne and Western Australia, prior to progressing into full time emergency nursing at the Animal Emergency Centre. In 2011, she moved to the UK, where she locumed for 5 years, working at numerous practices and hospitals throughout, including the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, Queen Mother Hospital, within the Medicine, Surgery and ECC departments.
Since returning to Australia in 2016, she has specialised predominantly in anaesthesia & surgical nursing, working in various speciality hospitals.She has worked as the head Surgical Nurse at the Animal Referral Hospital Melbourne, Veterinary Specialist Services where she worked as a Surgical Supervisor and completing the rigorous studies & examinations required to qualify as a Veterinary technician specialist in anaesthesia & analgesia
Her other qualifications include being a Registered Veterinary Nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons,(UK), & holding a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Kate is based in Brisbane, Queensland & provides anaesthetic teaching and training through VAPMC.
